I got done in a contrived accident, I rear ended a lone guy in front at very low speed and after a few weeks got 2 whiplash claims...
Insurance investigator got on the case and got the other claim dropped, but as I had no witnesses and cctv was looking tuther way they still had to pay out but only the bare minimum.
I now leave a bigger gap, keep my speed down and my eyes on the road

My landlord who worked in insurance claims told me that the insurance of the last person to crash is responsible for everything in front of him. but if he did a slam on for no reason you and everyone else involved can claim from his insurance.

Generally goes knock for knock in this situation, but could still imply you were too close to the car in front or driving without DCOA.

Dad had exactly the same a few years ago. His insurance had to pay out for 3 other cars as we got rear ended, knock on effect etc. And the bloke behind drove off. He was at the back.

If I buy my car back off the insurance if it's a write off will I still have to pay my excess?

Also if the guy in front of me slammed on for no reason apart from he 'thought I was too close' and I went into the back of him is that still my fault? I'm guessing yes as I should have been further back.

Regardless of why he braked, you should have always left a big enough gap to allow for your reaction time and the braking distance.

Not Bull, most insurance companies now use this system for claims, it makes complicated claims simple to sort, making "knock for knock" redundant in most cases
