Throttle Position Sensor
« on: 12 January 2012, 11:36 »
Was driving my Gti the orher day and my EPC light came on, brought the car to a friend who Vagcom'd the car for me and it through up a code for my Accelerator position sensor, think it was something like 008504 G79/G185 Accelerator position sensor, immplausible position. been doing a bit of research and the sensor appears to be at the back of my pedal, im going to replace this sensor anyway but from what ive been reading this might not be the fault, any info ive found seems to be on Golfmkv and only concerns american cars. They mention everything from MAF sensors and wiring loom being replaced to fryed ECU's. Ive tried the search button on here but cant get any info about it. Im just wondering has anyone on here had any trouble with theirs and if so wat solution did you find. Im really stuck and any help would be appreciated, I just dont wanna go firing away money on stuff that might not be the problem. Anyway cheers for taking the time to read this guys and please feel free to give your opinions/experiences

Go back to your friend with the vcds cable and do a basic setting for throttle body.

Prerequisites:
Ignition ON
Engine OFF
System voltage at least 11.0 V.

[Select]
[01 - Engine]
[Basic Settings - 04]
Group 060
[Go!]
Activate the Basic Setting.
[ON/OFF/Next]
Wait until Field 4 shows "ADP. O.K.".
[Done, Go Back]
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]

Switch Ignition OFF.

Clear the fault code then recheck it after a short drive to see if it reappears.

Without traction power is nothing!

Hi, new to the forum today as have decided to buy my first GTI this week ('07 in black).
I used to have an Astra van and used to get a similar error code come up and it would go into limp mode.
It turned out there was a little pin behind the accelerator pedal that was on a kind of ratchet that if it had been pushed in too far it would return past the sensor therefor giving the error code.
Just a thought.
