CHUGGY GTI

I know someone will have the answer to this, i have no mechanical knowledge whatsoever. Recently purchased a mk3 gti 8v, really pleased with it except when i put my foot down it sometimes feels a bit chuggy in 3 4 and 5,seems to be top end of the gear. The car was sat for a few months prior to me buying it. Any ideas what i can do or what it could be. Also want to put a better air filter on and unsure of what to get. Thanks in advance

it maby needs a good service soud like ur not gettin enuf fule or air just cange all the filters including fule filter as many people forget it and oil change sarkplugs see how it gose after that m8
