Somebody broke my GTI....
« on: 10 January 2012, 12:49 »
Worst start to a new year ever, some complete tool managed to drive into the front of my previously immaculate MK5 GTI causing nearly £1000 worth of damage. The worst part is I was stationary in a line of traffic at the time and could do nothing but watch him do, almost slow motion style.

It's now being battled through the insurance companies, who aren't much use, so no doubt it'll be settled at a split liability.

Anybody else had a similar experience with their pride and joy?? Makes you want to cry......

I meant the above sarcastically but I've heard bad things about insurance companies in such situations, especially with no independent witnesses. Believe me I will be fighting all the way to ensure that it goes down as the other chap being fully to blame.

Effectively, I was stationary on a roundabout, indicating and waiting to turn right (3rd exit), but in a line of traffic waiting to do the same. The other vehicle, in the left hand land enters the roundabout and is intending to go straight over (2nd exit). The guy doesn't take the roundabout properly, I.e follow the contour and go 'round' but instead cuts across taking the driving line.

Consequently his car goes into the front wing of my car, long bang and scrape of metal. Unbelievably, he didn't stop and just drove off. I managed to get out of the traffic and followed him for at least 100m flashing and beeping before he stopped and I could get his details. I was absolutely fuming but managed to keep cool and be reasonably polite.

Obviously I'm confident that I'm not at fault as I couldn't have done anything to avoid this and know my vehicle was well positioned in my respective lane. It's all a waiting game whilst I wait to hear what excuse he has for his negligence and poor driving.....
