Have I been told a porky about 'scrubbed' tyres ?
« on: 09 January 2012, 19:54 »
All,

Got my Mk6 when they first came out, and loved it ever since, however about 4 months ago there started a whirring noise coming from the rear which I thought was wheel bearings. Took it into the local VW dealership to be told it was the tyres which have apparently naturally become 'scrubbed' ina  way that causes the noise.

I was dubious but they were adamant, so I took it as read. However I've only now got to looking on the forum and can't see anyone else complaining - so have I been told a load of b*llocks ??

any help / advice appreciated

Same noise, same answer mate.  Dunlop tyres no doubt?

I'm sure Keithuk posted some pictures of tyres with this issue but i think it was an issue that could be sorted, not 100% though.

apparently not, only new ones installed and I can't fork out for tyres that are otherwise perfectly fine (and paid for by the lease company !)

If they are nearly new you could always have them shaved at around £10 a corner. Usually done to road legal track tyres but I can't see why you couldn't get normal road tyres done too.
