well there is the issue, the only other thing that seems to go wrong when the fuse goes is the fuel gauge,

but i wondered if it happened when the brake and reverse switch and wires were changed last week.

but as with most vw cars the reverse havent worked for months and months and in some manuals the same fuse is responsible for the reversing lights

Could be faulty clocks - but to try another set you will need someone to code them in

And this sounds like it is the wiring to the speed sensor under the battery

the strange thing is that the temperture gauge etc are fine purely the fuel and speedo. it is fuse 7 on the x reg 3dr right hand drive 1.8gti aum. i just phoned a vw dealership they said they thought it was unlikely we would be able to find what was causing it and we need to check the wiring that was done last week as that could have pulled something

but i have so little knowledge of the wiring of the car.i am not clear where the wires from the reversing sensor switch and casing thingy have both been changed goes except the gear box.  i know i that sounds a bit daft but i am a newbie to vw's

i hope we dont have to change the clocks as the clifford all singing all dancing alarm system runs through it as well as everything.

do u think if i found a someone with a fault code reader.it would be giving the correct or because it might have shorted out it would be giving random readings.
thanks again
