boge sus kit
« on: 14 May 2005, 00:07 »
just fitted my boge super gas suspension kit with 37-40mm lowering springs
all went well fitting the struts and spring and i even remembered to mark the position of the camber from the old struts
handling has improved a thousand fold and every time i hit a hole in the quality British roads we all love, the rear near side  wheel doesn't bounce sending the rear of the car over to the curb (you know what i mean we have all had this problem?) because of the fluidless damper that used to be there has now been replaced.
just a few questions thought (yeah alright come on you knew it was coming)
1, does anyone else have a similar kit or suspension fitted to there Mk3 if so what are the normal activity of the kit whilst driving
2, I've heard that new suspension generally takes a couple of hundred miles to settle down thus meaning it won't look (at first) as low as it will be once settled
3, seems a bit bouncy at the rear, is this normal for uprated sus kits

and finally the car accelerates better, corners better, brakes better
and i love it
cheers
jay

we had the apex kit on ours 40mm drop....

it was hard when we fitted it. when my bro was driving it was making me feel sick!!.. and then it went soggy.... also we had oilly stuff coming out of one of them even though they are gas!!

so we rang motor-world up and they ordered another 2 shocks for the front... they took a £50 deposit and we get the £50 back when we take the shocks back!

within a few days we fitted them and took the shocks back in the week...

it feels tighter than before but it doesnt feel all that great... even though you press down its hard...

but i think we've got use to it but i do think something is still wrong..... it still leans abit when you hit bends
but during hard braking and accelerating we get a knock noise!!

its been happening for abit now.... but i've had the car on stands and i can find nothing wrong but it has got worse so i'm thinking theres a bush off.... possible anti roll bar bushes!! and it may how up better now!!

but the vr6 engine is heavy and i think this spoils the handeling!!

my mates mk 3 8v he had the same kit as mine!! and his is hard...... but mines lower at the front!!

he also had the same kit when he had his mk 2... i had the g max.... and that was brillant!!

i use to hit roundabouts at 60mph with easy...... infact on a few times i went around the roundabout in the mk 2 that hard a massive cloud of blue smoke come out of the exaust on the mk2! :embarassed:

it was like thick fog!! you couldnt see anything it was in daylight!!

i think all the oil went up one side of the engine and created too much pressure and it blew passed the seals and rings!! i'm glad no police ever saw it!!! :embarassed:  thats a bedtime story for you!! a real story!

heres the vr earlier today!

Recently fitted boge turbo gas dampers with H&R springs to mine. i used to push one side down and the whole car would move now i can push one corner and just see that corner move slightly. Rides firm but not too hard, can go about 10-20 mph over humps. much tighter so goes faster round roundabouts and corners.still need to get tracking and maybe camber done as steering wheel is slightly off but giving it a about week to settle slightly, did you get urs done and how much should i expect?. Did either of you have trouble with the front i had to drill the top nuts as they were so rusted but went back togther much easier.

the only nuts and bolt we had to replace where the strut to hub bolts!

i think they were ok.. but we got new ones just for the sake of replacing them....

my mates were ok when we fitted his!

we did have our camber alined up after we needed to because the left wheel had loads of positive cameber which made the wheel bow in!!.... but when we did my mates we pulled the bottom of the disc out
so it was 100% negative camber before tightening the bolts... and it looked pretty much normal...

i said you could get it alined but he's not bothered... he's just kept it like that!!

it isnt really much different to ours......

when we replaced the shocks..... we just marked it .... and tried our best to aline them up with the marking!

and it looks ok.... the camber was £80...at wh gervis in stoke thats a non dealer garage...
