im a bit worried about a flat battery as my car hasn't moved for a while other than twice taking it out/driving it back into the garage to polish and wax it.

I have one for each GTI hooked up in the garage. They come with a waterproof connector you can connect to the battery and leave inside the battery trim box when not in use. Spot on!

I got my old man one too the other year...a quality piece of kit...and at that price, an absolute steal.

Both my cars sit hooked up when not in use...and I've never had battery issues in any car since starting using them - approx 7 years ago.

£45 ain't cheap for a 3.8amp trickle charger even though you say its supplied to Porsche.

If you park your car within reach of a mains socket, I can recommend a ctek battery conditioner to prevent future problems with flat batteries.

Agreed.  Got one for my Harley and it's superb.

i use them on my bikes all the time but because of the way my garage is i can't open the bonnet or get to the front of it as the front end is under a staircase.

to leave mine on charge i would need to leave the car outside for a while i suppose
