No worries,

Just take your time.

Unless the parts are in the boot of the car you may need the following.

6x metal seal retainers and seals Later cabby are easier to get hold of on E Bay.

Foam gaskets available from VW still Part No 155871431, works out at around £20.00 for the 6.

Tonneau side cover trims. Available on E Bay.

Rear Tabs for the cover E bay. There was a seller on there who used to do them for a quid a pair.

Are you planning to tackle the roof and do a proper job?

Send me a pm and I can send you a list of what and where and further assistence.

Cheers

Chalky

The seal to the right that I put dont know, nackered in the picture is the seal that runs across the scuttle/body join. It holds the tray in place.
Make sure you have a tray in place that covers the blower motor cover grille and the drain tubes either side are clear or you will end up with wet foot wells etc.

Did you get my PM by the way.

cheers

Nice one,

I will pm you some info.

To remove the roof:-

If you are removing the window and seal to adjust the material fit/tension, go to step 3 first. As it's usual practice to do this first with hood replacement.

1) Open hood and unscrew the front header bow and the corner plates from the front.

2) Remove seals LOL and metal retainers.

3) Remove rear seat base, by unscrewing the 2 brackets and slide forward. Fold the back rest down and press the glass and seal our of it's opening, 2 people one to catch the glass as it's pressed out. Remove staples and loosen material away from window frame.

4) Remove window winder handles and pry door cards off gently, try and use a plastic spreader as metal will scratch the paint.
Once behind slide till you hit a popper and prise away. If you prise in between them you run the risk of ripping them out of the backing board.

5) Unscrew and remove the 2 plastic covers either side of the seat, they should have the locking tab knob poking through them.
This locks the hood in the folded down position. The knobs simply pull off.

6) loosen the material pocket from the front of the frame and front side flaps and slide off the frame, this easier done with the roof half open.

7) This should remove the tension from the side cables. Unhook from the rear frame sections either side.
On early models the cables are attatched to springs on the front on later models they were sprung from the rear.

8) Slide the front cover off the front section.

9) close roof and peel the 2 side flaps from the rear sections and unscrew the 2 plastic tonneau cover trims and also the C pillar caps, the square rubber things with 2 screws diagonally,  You can see them in the picture.

10) Take a look at the frame mid point you should see a strap that comes through the pad and is riveted with a back washer to the frame. Drill this out and pull the strap out.

11) using a 10mm ratchet spanner locate the end of the cable stud and undo the nuts. Try and stop the cable from twising by using a 3-4mm spanner on the flat bit of the stud.

12) Pull the hood material inc cable from the rear channel, slide the rear tensioning cable from the car body. Check for any further fixings before you lift the cover off the car frame.

usual disclaimer applies.

No worries,

send me a PM when your ready and I can sort the info  out etc.

So long as your done for the summer.

Then it's happy days.

Try and get hold of a wind blokker.

They kill the noise and air turbulance in the cabin and with the heaters on it will extend the use of the car later on in the season, especially when it starts to get that little bit cooler in the evenings.

It's really only a day job to redo the roof, once you got your stuff together.

cheers
