Intermitent windscreen wipers
« on: 13 May 2005, 08:45 »
Hi,

This is perhaps a stupid question, but i got my first MK2 GTi 16V (89 model) about a month ago and cannot figure out how to get intermitent windscreen wipers on!!!  There doesn't seem to be any logical position for the windsreen wiper stalk to be in - only 1 position up for normal speed and 2 notches up for fast speed!!  It's driving me insane!!!

Cheers!

Try putting the stock switch down instead of up

It doesn't go down!  This is bizzare!!  I take it down works for everyone else then??

The only thing i can think of is that my car has an aftermarket steering wheel and boss, but it has all been installed properly and doesn't get in the way of anything else.....

Yes, mine was also quite stiff when I got the car, and still is......

the intermitent position is still not very easy to engage, but will get easier as you play with it.

Cue Frankie Howard!!

right for some reason vw out a plastic stop thing in the switch, take your sterring wheel and switch off and have a look you will see the stop that prevents the lever from going down remove it and hey presto

i had same problem and did write a how too somewhere on here :S but as veedub8v put it the intermittant function is there but disabled by a stupid bit of plastic wedged into the wiper arm to disable it pointless really but take 10 minutes to remove the steering wheel and youll see the indicator arm infront and the wiper arm behind unplug the cabling and pull the indicator arm out and on the left side of the colum not the wiper arm side but the otherside of the mechanism youll see a white lug on the top pop it out and the wiper arm will now go down aswell as up. put everything back and you now have intermittant wipers :D
