similar fun / practicality as a Golf GTi, but a bit bigger?

hi there, umming and aring over next car - currently have a Mk V GTi which I love. If - and it's a big if - we decided we needed more space, what's the next best option (VW or otherwise) for fun and practicality? Civil at low speeds (wife is a new driver), fun for me, space for two kids etc etc (you know, the usual suburban cliche  )

I guess it's a family (passat, 3 series)-sized estate? or something random, like a Qashqui?! (which look ok, but are dog slow).

Who's made a similar jump? thanks all.

why not a mk6, simelar size to a mk5, enough space for the kids. ect. ? or is the price tag too big?

yeah, Mk VI would be great - but same size as the Mk V and that's what's got us wondering about more space. Trying hard to love the Passat, but don't know much about it. Will have a look and see if there's a quick version at sensible money for a few yr old one.

As for the Qashqui, it IS horrible... or so I thought until i saw it in white. Then it made more sense. Hmm... not persuaded, are you? Not sure I am either. Think I'll stop now *backtracks quietly*

I had a qasqui as a courtesy car earlier in the year, after 2 days I complained and ended up with an Astra instead.

It was completely gutless, felt cheap inside, the steering has no feel to it & the ride is awful....avoid like the plague.

A4, passat, leon cupra R are all good cars

tbh i wouldnt recoment a cupra r for a family, the ride is quite stiff and the front scrapes on every speed bump, nice big boot and 4doors tho.
