worth going for a Mk VI over a Mk V?
« on: 30 December 2011, 20:52 »
Hi there, about to trade in my 2004 DSG GTi for a newer one (and a manual instead). Cost might rule out a 2009 Mk VI, so I might end up with a 2007/8 Mk V. But still, just in case.... wondered what the general feedback was for drivers going from the Mk V to Mk VI?

suspect you're all biased, but thought I'd ask! cheers.

If I was buying myself a gti I'd go for a mk5 DSG sub 10k with 18's and xenons.

Tell me all about yours and you may have a buyer :-)

is that because you prefer the Mk V, or just the cost on the VI? TBH, I'm assuming there's not that much to choose between them - VI having a bit more power, slightly nicer/newer inside, few more toys? Personally I think the Mk V looks better too.

as for mine... Tornado Red, Dec 2004, DSG, 5-dr, 53k miles, great condition inside and out, FVWSH. Also all the extras (inc. Xenons), except no parking sensors or (sorry) the 18" Monzas.

Yours for sub-10k!

There's no way I'm going into this on here or I'll be shunned forever

I just love the MK5 GTI DSG.

Does it have a sunroof?

How much is your car then?

The only real advantages of the mk6 over the mk5 gti are the mpg (which is not why you buy a gti) and the interior (which again is not why you buy a gti)

mk5 ftw  :lipsrsealed:

If you don't want to spend over £20k I'd spend my money on an MK5 R32.

If it were me in your shoes,  I'd go for a Mk V GTi Edition 30

Great car, great handling and plenty of punch with 230bhp (standard);    or  280+ bhp (remapped Stage 1) if you're that way inclined.

Should hold it's value well too if you look after it
