damb stuff sets to fecking fast, it's convient for small jobs/botching    but it looses a lot of its strength because of the rapid set.

all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Ok, Im making it out of wood (Replacing old one)

I want it to be free standing at the bottom of the garden with the corner post (Wooden) standing about 8ft out of the ground leading into a pitched roof which i want to be about 10 - 10.5ft high and 15ft long. The surface I'm building on is concrete surrounded with grass.

My plan: Set/secure the 4 corner's into the ground
Build 1 side of roof on the ground then with a team effort lift on and screw into place.

Anyone else got any other idea's..? I dont want a pure concrete garage (Reason I chose wood). I also want enough space to park the car and be able to move around in there.

Would picture's help.?

Buy yourself a dismantled concrete prefab! just lay a decent base, concrete or slabs, and a couple of weekends to build... have a hunt round on your local Gumtree, you'll probably pick something up for next to nothing.

so you want the corner posts too hold the weight of the roof then infill the walls after?
how level/thick is the concrete your wanting to build it on?
if it was me and i had a solid level base to work off i would build the four walls in kit form and bolt them to the concrete base and then put a ridge beam in and then put your couples up to that, its only small so would be plenty strong

Yeah that's my plan.. And the concrete is perfectly level (Just slightly dipped on the back corner)

whats your budget ? i would personally buy prefab because your doing timber. easy as sh!t to put up, done loads now.

comes as a big kit, really simple to put up, looks really good too. these are what we put up, have a look. (dont have to buy from there obviously)

You'll be best off buying some bolt down metposts and some anchor bolts, just bolt them into the concre

If your just going to birdsmouth the trusses to the wall plate and it's 15 foot long you'll need to put supports in the middle of the wall to stop the roof sagging, also remember if it's a pitched roof you'll need to brace it across to stop the roof pushing the walls out in the middle. a 6x2 every meter if your not walking/storing stuff up there, every 40 cm if you are.

alternatively you can make roof trusses on the ground with the bracing already on them and lift them on, just make one and use it as a template so the following ones are the same.

have a look at this see if it helps,  www.essortment.com/yourself-build-garage-11994.html  although I never have and never will build a wall on the ground then lift it in place as I personally find it much easier to build in place.

Current cars 1995 Golf gti colour concept 2.0 8v 156,000 miles. bmw 316 1.9 129,000. yeah, life's good!

I don't get why you need corner posts if you are building in timber frame. If you have a level concrete base, rawl bolt a sole plate down to the base, pre-fab your wall panels and fix them into place.

Not quite as big as a garage, but the concept is the same, this is my office that I built about 3 years ago.

The picture inside doesn't show the bracing in the roof. They need to be ceiling collars bolted to each rafter no higher than 1/3 of the distance from wall plate to ridge.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
