iPhone 3GS Best buys?
« on: 27 December 2011, 16:32 »
Before anyone says it, no, I don't need a 4 or 4S at double or more the price, end of!  Yes, it's an out of date phone now, but it does all I want it to and I really really don't need a fancy £35-45 a month contract that I won't get the use out of just so I can talk to my phone.
And I really don't want to start a 'which phone is best' war on here. It's a bit like my Golf, I could have bought a Peugeot or SEAT or whatever for much less ££ that did much more but I didn't want one of those, I wanted a Golf GTI. Same story with the phone.

I hardly use a mobile phone, but have decided after spending countless hours messing about with my son's 3GS over Christmas I need one in my life.
I bought his off a forum member second hand for £100 in mint condition and unlocked which was rather nice and he had it for Christmas.

I've not seen many mint condition ones come up for sale since at sensible money so had an extended look round the net at various deals.
The best I've seen so far is a 3GS on T-Mobile at £15.32 a month, 50 mins phone use (I hardly ever use the phone as a phone so probably won't ever get through more than that), unlimited texts (I do tend to use a lot of texts at work) and 500 MB net (would probably use wi-fi mostly anyway). This works out at about £368 over 24 months and then £50 or £70 back from quidco depending on how it tracks.

What do we reckon? Can anyone come up with better?

If I could track another mint one down for £100 I could go with giff gaff for a tenner a month but then I wouldn't have a brand new (warranted) phone and after two years would have spent more (although with the second hand phone and flexible sim contract I wouldn't actually be tied to the 24 months if I decided I wanted to upgrade along the line).

Keep an eye on Revive Mobile's ebay store, they don't have anything listed at the mo (Staff off over Christmas I guess)

Otherwise forums, ebay, ebid etc

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

Thanks for the link Jay.

Not keen on ebay for obvious reasons, known a few people buy from there and some aren't as new as they're made out to be and others have locked up after a while making them expensive second hand ipods!!

I've been keeping an eye on all the VAG forums I frequent but at the total cost of the brand new one listed above it makes a it look like quite an attractive alternative to a used one.
Was wondering what other users who are a bit more switched on than me may have seen on their travels for brand new phones.
