That'll do for me - there's far more evidence saying the remap won't make a difference to the warranty than it will.

Let's go for it...

Wow... I've just seen that £365 and am very tempted!!

As above - buy the handset now, and don't actually remap until you've had your issues fixed.  That way you get the bluefin at the bargain price, but don't need to worry about the dealer.

Do you seriously think I could have a Bluefin handset sitting in the house for three weeks without me plugging it in? It'd be like waving a Big Mac in front of Robinson Crusoe when he was stuck on his island!!!!!

One thing that appears to have been overlooked.. if they eventually trace the alarm fault to be related to the ECU, you will have an argument on your hands when it comes to a warranty claim if your flash counter is not what its expected to be. This is why its always best to be open with your dealer about remapping, let them know you're having it done and that the fault was there long before you tinkered with the ECU.
Also if they end up replacing the ECU there is no guarantee the map file you get from bluefin will work on the new one and you'll end up paying for a second map file.

I had my engine replaced after a remap.... no questions asked  :lipsrsealed:

As stated above, dealers will welcome the extra work no doubt.... but as topher said, its probably better to be open and honest before hand. In your case andy the dealer should know that this has been an ongoing issue well before any mapping has taken place.

btw if the garage you are referring to is Leeds.... dont bother telling those cnuts anything  :lipsrsealed:

p.s. I knew it wouldnt be long before the remap bug got you

No Gilly it's not Leeds. I know they are the lowest of the low from my attempts to buy my GTi there plus of course horror stories like yours that I've heard.

I think I've decided I'm going to rig my "case manager" at VW UK and tell him what I'm going to do. As you've all said, I'll have been open with them then. Plus, the fact that mine's a long term issue should mean it's ok.

Plus, if I'm not mistaken, isn't Bluefin effectively what VW Racing use anyway?

Just double check this with Jamie Turvey the technical diretcor at Superchips but they can program your bluefin to reset the Flash counter for you to any digit you request.  To be on the safe side you could visit their HQ in Miton Keynes then they can read the ECU,  check the flash counter and load up for you whilst you wait then each time you use the handset it will reset the counter.

They may even throw in a free Dyno run if you offer feedback on the forum,  well worth discussing the options and also their back up warranty,  personally i don't think you will have any issue with your warranty claim as totally unrelated but understandable to be careful with your pride and joy.

Drop me a pm if you want Jamies personal e-mail address,  I'm not connected with SC in any way just had no less than 6 cars mapped by them in the past with no issues affecting any warranty or service work.
