Best Anti Freeze?
« on: 19 December 2011, 00:08 »
Hi

Car desperately needs Anti Freeze, but I'm wondering if there such a thing as good/bad Anti Freeze?

I was looking at this:

http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Volkswagen_Golf_1.4_2000/p/car-accessories/engine-oils-and-car-fluids/antifreeze-and-screenwash/blue-antifreeze/?523770472&0&cc5_865

But what's the difference between red & blue Anti Freeze? And are these Anti Freeze's any good to buy?

Thanks :)

I think on a mk4 you should not use blue, so you need the red stuff, if in doubt get it from VW

Thanks mate

How long should it last considering It's only a 1L bottle, will I have any left at the end of filling up?

As long as it lasts until summer I'd be happy, but I heard it's supposed to last for months and months, as long as I have no leaks that is ;)

Just water at the mo. So you reckon a 2L bottle is my best bet?

" fill about 1 1/2 litres into the system, then run it with the coolant bottle cap left off, these things rarely airlock, but let it run for about 10 mins or so.

then top up with water!! Easy peasy!!  "

^ From the uk-mkivs forum.

Is that way ok to do? :)

Otherwise I have no idea how to do a coolant change :(
