Dodgey noise from mk4 front wheel/suspension...
« on: 18 December 2011, 17:17 »
I recently took a long drive down to luton and when I got there i was hitting numerous roundabouts and noticing that when i turn left my car (mk4 1.8t) makes a noise, similar to that of when a cv joint goes but a bit more grinding and vibrating, from the front drivers side... I had the driveshaft replaced month ago and only just got my car back from having the brake system done  It does it at every speed, only when turning left and it doesnt seem to matter if I'm under acceleration or not...

I have been reading that it could be a wheel bearing or a knackered damper but dont have the money to throw loads of parts at it so was wandering if anyone has had similar issues and any ideas on what it could be?

Any help is really appreciated

Thanks

Top mount? Wishbone bush? ARB bush?  :undecided:

Ah right, Is there anyway to visually check which of these its likely to be?

With the Wishbone and ARB yes would be best to get it on a ramp to look and check for movement

Jack it up. Feal for movement in front wheel. Left to right and up n down

Spin the wheel up. Listen for any noises. Rumbling ? Grinding ?

Take wheel off check cv joint. Ball joints and coil spring is complete and not snapped ?  Also turn left to right see if you can hear the noise clearer when up close
