Fitting BAM engine into AUM Gti
« on: 16 December 2011, 17:45 »
Hi,
I've been searching all over for a definite answer to this, have found some answer's but not enough info to decide whether to do it or not!!

1) Basically, is it just a straight forward swap, AUM engine out, BAM engine in?
2) Do all the engine loom plugs match up or is there some need to be changed to get it to work?
The BAM engine I'm looking to buy comes with everything, turbo, manifold etc
3) What about the downpipe, do I need to get one made to fit or will my one work?
4) Will the ECU be needed from the Audi TT that it's fitted to to run? will that plug into my loom or do I need the loom from the BAM engine?
5) Finally! my car has the 5 speed gearbox, I'd like to fit a 6 speed box while I'm doing the engine swap, is the 02M gearbox the one I need? Is the cupra R gearbox the same, as say, the AUQ Gti/vRS gearbox or different?

Just anyone that has done this, I'd really appreciate as much info as you have.
I need to let the guy know tomorrow whether I'm taking it or not!!
Thanks

think the bam engine has more sensors so may need to do some work with the loom. and yes i think you might need the ecu, however ive not really looked into the bam engines so ide get someone to confirm what ive said

You need the Bam loom and Ecu, reference the 6spd gearbox I would stick with the 5spd you will need to change a lot to get it in and working, sticking with the 5sp makes things a lot easier.

the 5 speed IMO is a better gear box anyway, no difference in strength and you can hit 70 in 2ed gear in the 5speed. most importantly the 5 speed is already there so less time + money.

The Clio didn't as it's naturally aspirated and French
