I’m always worried someone tries to get into the house. Have a stereo that costs the same as a new GTI. So got extra locks put on our patio doors and have the lower part of the house alarmed when everyone is in bed. Also thinking of installing video cameras.
I work away from home so want to make sure the family is safe

Not much more you can do than that. I've got a couple of decent dummy videos camera's installed at my house (one round the back of the house and one at the front looking of the front door/driveway). They even come with a red light on them to make them look like they are powered on

Place a landmine under the doormat, And arm the wife with automatic weapons. Should do the job just nicely

Dummy camara is a great idea especially with a red light showing.

So got extra locks put on our patio doors and have the lower part of the house alarmed when everyone is in bed.

I have my alarm set every night when I'm in bed - full lower floor and garage.
Hell, I often alarm the garage individually when I'm in the house watching a film with the noise cranked up!

Monitored alarms, bell/siren boxes, cameras etc are great at making the scum move on to an easier target.

But, if the scum are prepared to break into your house, find your bedroom and threaten you, to get your car keys...they know they can get in, get the keys/car and get out before Plod rocks up

All you can do is make it as hard for them as possible.

A big fcuk off dog does for me.

The only draw back is, a few delivery drivers have stopped halfway up the drive when they see the dog growling and going ballistic behind the glass door and they do an about turn and deliver to my neighbours instead, claiming I wasn't in

Wheels are the easiest to explain...mine have done less than 15 miles from new...so they'll be going up for sale at some point - and perfectly genuine.
Grilles, bumpers, seats etc, perhaps more suspicious.

This works for me too. Clip the keys to a Bullmastiffs colar and no-ones coming near!
