Look to get back to Mk5 GTi.

Hello all -

Haven't been here for a while - but I'm thinking of getting back into a mk5 GTi. I bought a GTi back in 2008 and instantly fell in love with it. Unfortunately, after it's re-map and subsequent rise in fuel prices + extra work mileage - I had to sell up and buy a diesel. I moved on to a E90 330d - which I absolutely adore to. Have had it re-mapped and a new exhaust system has given it circa 300bhp and 500ib's ft of torque. The time has come to sell it though, for various different reason. The main reason is that the new F30 model will be out shortly and I want to get shot of it before it depreciates more than it already has. I've also just bought a house - so looking to cutting monthly car spending for a good year or so.

So, I've been keeping a close eye on the MK5 market and the GTi's are going for very reasonable money. The only regret I had, when I bought mine, was that it had very few options. The Only worry I have is the amount of GTis in the market that seem very suspicious. Or is it just me? For instance - I rang a private seller a to enquire about the lack of mileage displayed on a Autotrader add for his car. It was jam packed with every option and he said it only had 60 on the clock. DSG (which is what I want more than anything else) Sat nav, leather, xenons - and his asking price was only 6500 -on a -06 plate.  Is this him being realistic - or is there some clocking going on? that wasn't the only example  - there were a few others. A 07 plate with lots of options for only £7k - etc.

More and more people are using none official dealers now - should I go for cars with VW history only?
