digifant-astic or digi-pants?
« on: 11 May 2005, 00:34 »
which is the engine that runs the best on a Mk 2 8v? I have a 91 gti, which has given me alot of headaches since i got it last year. I definitely made a bad decision when i bought it (class d write off i later found out) but it still makes me grin when i drive it. But which is the engine you lot all want? (apart from 16v ofcourse) d'oh...

kjet was desigined with performace/responsivness in mind
digi was designed with efficiency in mind

kjet is a lot more simple than digi

but you can chip a digi, i have drove a kjet and digi 8v and being honest apart from the kjet being harder to start (fault woth car) and a bit eager to rev i didnt notice that much difference, however kjet is as fickle as digi if not setup right, both can be an arse!

ive got a chipped cam'd etc digi and its a great car to drive, i have driven the k-jet and the respone issue people find with digi i have resolved by altering the spring tension etc in the afm..

I got a digi as i wanted a l8 mk2 and this came up for sensible money, and yeh the engines do look better!

what is the response issue you are talking about (please excuse me, i am a girl..)

today i noticed that my engine is over heating a little and the fan is coming on just when it is at idle. could that be timing? and are digifants really pershnickety about everything being just exactly right, or what?

eh? the fan will come on at idle more so than when you're moving as there is no air getting blown onto your radiator from hoofing it down the road.

by response he means something called digi-lag which is a short hesitation when you put your foot down. i've never really noticed it myself and i've heard of people doing the mod he did to overcome it but never done mine and not sure whats involved.

i wouldn't have thought a digi will be more fussy about being right. at the end of the day you want a decent engine so if its set up right it'll be cool!!
