colouring bolts
« on: 14 December 2011, 19:37 »
hi all

just got a new engine and i am giving it a make over, paint and powder coating major parts etc

My question is....... the high tensile bolts etc on the engine i was hoping to get them plated a red colour in some way like i know for a fact you can get them gold plated, chromed or a bzp coating, and you can buy black fasteners which in certain areas i am going to do but i wanted to throw a few red items in there

Anodising is no good unless they are alumimum as the acid will eat at the item

paint and powercoating maybe a option but i will have too ultra careful when securing and then there is the hassle of cleaning the treads..................

if there is no other way i may use these alumimum bolts etc but for none load bearing items but ideally i want the high tensile stuff there

Does any one know a way???

I think you may be struggling, but be aware that painted bolts could look very very naff, overkill springs to mind!  Id go for aircraft quality SS Allen bolts with SS washers and "K" nuts, have a look at Demon Tweaks website
