Thanks for the replies, guess I'll go with the ipad offer and use our back up Acer laptop for emailing etc.  I will only be using the ipad for gaming and internet browsing really.
Fair enough. The one major downside with the iPad for internet browsing is that the iPad doesn't work with Flash content, so websites that use a lot of Flash will be terrible to use. Even simple functions on websites, like the zooming of product photos on the Argos website use Flash, but therefore that doesn't work on the iPad.

Flash is soon to be a thing of the past anyway, adobe have finally realised it's outdated pants

I don't print from my ipad anyway was just suggesting the printers available, i tend always print everything at work saves me buying paper lol

You could try a samsung galaxy tab 10.1 its uses android and allows the use of flash player,i brought my wife a ipad 2 before we got the samsung but found that web browsing was limited by not being able to use flash player on the ipad2.We have a ipad 2 and a samsung tab 10.1 the samsung is as good as the i pad 2, also most of the apps for the samsung are free, the same apps on the ipad you have to pay for.

As I said Flash is going so will be a thing of the past very soon & most apps are cheap anyway. If apps are all free who is going to spend time developing them. I don't mind funding the companies that make good apps

iPad's are completely different in the terms of uses to netbooks or Macbook iProAirWillyWavingVTechOSToys

Depends what you need/want an iPad for or netbook/laptop for. Weigh up the pro's and con's and decide what you need/want more.

Pro's opens up the number of Apps you can get (you have to trust the source though) and customization.
Con's Jailbroke iOS devices are also more open to Malware.
