engine idle problem...
« on: 13 December 2011, 19:43 »
hi to all, need some help again please guys !!! i have a mk4 1.8 t 2002 (AUM) engine code. the problem i have is when i start the car first thing in the morning it revs at approximately 1700 rpm as usual and then drops gradually back down to approximately 800 rpm which was fine as far as i was concerned... if i turned the ignition off once engine had warmed up and then restarted car the revs would go to about 800 rpm immediately which was fine and as expected... just lately if i start the car with the engine warmed up already the revs go to approx 1500 rpm and drop gradually (about 30 seconds) back to the normal 800 rpm almost like the engine is going through its cold start cycle again, also sometimes when coming to a junction or traffic lights the engine seems to idle around the 1100 rpm range almost like something is stuck open slightly for a while... the car has already had a new Bosch air mass meter fitted about 1000 miles ago, but still the fault persists... anybody had anything similar happen to their beloved VW ??? any ideas please guys as hate to see her not running correctly !!! many thanks ...... neil.

Perhaps try giving the throttle body a clean and reset?
