Newbie with gtd with questions
« on: 11 December 2011, 11:46 »
Hey was googling and came this site

I just recently got a gtd but was wondering what can and can't be retro fitted..

I have the rcd510 unit without reverse camera and trying to find out what bluetooth module I would need and how hard is it to fit??

How much is vagcom to buy?? Is this a must when you go to the dark side?? Haha

What other things do yous guys fit retro or upgrades?

Any pointers of other good sites yous use or to buy from?? Never had a German car so new to all vw stuff

pretty sure most things can be retro fitted esp the reverse camera. dont have to have vag com as there are lots that do and are always willing to help out.

Bluetooth is pretty easy to fit and cost around £200, shame you just missed a group buy

Welcome aboard N3. Are you from Chicago by any chance?

If you want to add lots of add ons then vag-com/VCDS will be needed.

There are loads of things you can add depending on your current spec. Read through the forum for a few hours and discover lots.

You won't be able to add a rear camera to your RCD 510 unless you have a specific unit for the camera. You'll be wanting an RNS 510 before long anyway so can just add a camera to that. It's one of the things I'm planning on getting round to doing one year.

That was quick replays cheers haha

I defo am wanting the Bluetooth thing ASAP I have been kinda looking over the site but am reading people are using the vag for the steering controls. where is the best place to pick up the module and does it have to be a specific one or are they universal

Is cruise control easy to fit? My gf used to have a nurburgring and it was just the case of taking one stalk out and fitting another,

Also I seen the post of kennys front lights any one doing a group buy on them?

Ah, it was the ''yous guys'' bit that did it - thought I was in a gangster movie for a minute!!

Cruise control is an easy fit on most MK6s, add stalk and activate (vag com/VCDS needed!).

There are various Bluetooth modules available, have a search on here for Kufatec.

I was on that kufatec website but it's German is there an English version., how do I find out what module I need and is there any cables reqd or is iit just the case of taking out the old one under seat and clip in new one??

Has any one changed the footwell lightes to red and dim them down so it goes with the whole theme or the red in the car and the regi light bulbs does the can bus LEDs work ok in the cars so I can get rid of the little yellow bulbs and make it more classy

You could fit your own camera if you wanted to your RCD510 Installing a Golf Mark VI Rear View Camera (RVC) into a Golf Mark VI

You will need VCDS if you want to keep checks on things and do some tweaking. Don't bother with these cheap Chinese clones as they are more trouble then they are worth. I bought mine from ilexa and there is Gendan about £265.
