Starting Problems
« on: 09 May 2005, 14:12 »
Hi
Since changing my fuel filter I'm having starting problems with my mk2 16 valve its a K jet.  I have changed leads, dizzy, spark plugs and coil as well but this feels like a fuelling problem.  The starting problem only occurs when cold.  I have to put my foot flat on the pedal to get her started and when she fires up she cuts out immediately.  It's only after me turning her over 9 or ten times that she will finally tick over.  The rest of the day she seems to be fine.  Its only when i leave her over night that this happens.  I suppose she doesnt like mornings like me but its a little embarassing and i'm wanting to sort her  out.  Has anyone got any ideas?  Also if someone could provide a picture of how the coil is wired up i'd appreciate it as i fear that i may have wired the new coil wrong.  However I do feel that this is a fuel problem.  Please help thx

Would the distributor not be the most likly as you say you replaced it. Leads and plugs should not matter fuel filter should be no problem if its the correct one. (replace your old filter if you really think its that and dont mind the work) I am always worried and replace one thing at a time incase i get a problem and then fire it up just to make sure.

yeah, distributor is fine because i have had it tested.  Starting to wonder wether the filter was the right one because it did seem to be a slightly different shape although i did put this down to the fact that the old one was 90   percent rust
