MK1 3.2 2WD Help ???
« on: 06 December 2011, 11:13 »
Got the above engine ready to go in a MK1 but will be running fwd. Looking at perhaps a VR6 box, Fly wheeel. But what drive shafts would be best to use? Also for the brakes on the fronts the car will be running 15"s so which hubs / brake combos would best.

Was think G60 hubs and brakes for teh fronts..

Any help would be apreciated ??

Dave

I know of THIS one being built but it's running 4wd.  :undecided:

Not 100% sure what you'd need, I think 100mm shafts from say a later mk2 Scirocco or late cabby?..... New ones pop up from time to time on ebay...

Brakes, yes G60 Calipers with mk2 16v (256mm) discs are spot on for 15's (I run this setup with mk2 16v servo/master cylinder)

Why would you not run a 280 disk? Sounds like your gonna need it with the engine your going for.

Good point, it's 256 max for 14's not 15s... 280 for 15's if i'm not mistaken.

They are but Shaun was on about was that for whatever reason he runs mk2 16v disks with a g60 caliper, meaning he runs a 280 caliper on a 256 disk. You should run 280 g60 disks too.

Sorry, this thread has become over complicated and it's my fault, The disc size on a g60 is 280.. the caliper is essentially the same as that fitted to a mk2 16v that has a 256 disc.. I'm running g60 calipers with the smaller mk2 discs because of the carrier arrangement required for a mk1.  I think you need custom adapters to fit 280 discs on g60 calipers to mk1 hubs.

something like these:

How are you mounting the engine?
