Hello All,

Had an unfortunate knock with a mad max tow bar in London the other day... knackered my front big bumper... :(

Was wondering if the after market big bumpers you can get from GSF etc for about £50 quid are any good compared to the VAG ones. I'll need to get one sprayed up in Tornado Red ... may start to stack up in price.

Was thinking as I have to replace the front end anyways I would try and do a good job of it....  bit of resto, whilst at it.

So what are your opinions on the iny make ones compared to the original items? Would welcome comments from anyone who has had to replace theirs.

Cheers

Omby

Mine are GSF and my mates were when he had his golf a few years ago, neither of them fit as flush as the factory big bumper golfs..... in my opinion anyway as i don't know who fitted either kit! Maybe they were just bodgemasters!

I bought a front one from Europarts and the quality was poor. bumper didnt fit right at the brckets and the bottom splitter couldnt be fitted at all!  it also had a grey finish to it and looked out of place.

Ended up buying a new skin from VW at the cost of about 100 quid
If your metal bumper bar is damaged you can bash it back into shape

Try the GPC lot at www.gpcvwauid.com they hold VAG parts

Cheers for your thoughts there guys....

Had a hunch they might not be up to scratch. Guess that's why they are £50 and not £160...!

I bought a rear bumper for my mk1 a few years back and althought a simpler set up was not a very good quality.. thought they might have got their act together more on the mk2 indy bumpers as they are more intricate.

Right then.... anyone got a Tornado Reddun in good nick near Bristol? Fingers Crossed

Cheers,

way i look at it is if you love car enough to spend time on the forums chatting about it all the time, you would not be happy with a bamper that looks wrong. You will always have the satisfaction of knowing you have a proper one and not seeing that bad fit with the body filler underneath.
