Scirocco GT vs Golf GTi
« on: 04 December 2011, 19:56 »
Hey, i don't mean to start a war. Just for some general info. Ive got a Scirocco Gt and when i came to buy it i couldn't quite work out why the Golf was nearly 1k more even though they both got the same engine. The seats seem more sporty in the Golf. And i reckon there seem to be areas where they skimmed on in the Scirocco some bits seem like they could have done better on i.e. cup holder covers etc etc. Any other parts where build is better in Golf than Scirocco?

Any views on this?

I've not been in a Scirocco lately, but isn't it still Mk5 based with the dash from the Eos?
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

The Scirocco used to come better equipped as standard than the golf.  Not sure if it's still the same.
The Roc has an RCD510 as standard, when the Golf has an RCD310 (perhaps they've changed that?)
The Roc also comes with ACC as standard too.

Where does the extra cash go?  Probably because it's a slightly bigger car - so demands a slightly higher price tag?
Golf R... 3 door, DSG, Leather, Reflex Silver, Black 19" Talladega Wheels, ACC, Parking Sensors, RNS510 with Dynaudio, Reverse Camera, Luxury Pack, Cruise Control & Fiscon Bluetooth.

Fair point, i also think the quality in general is better in the golf i.e less hard plastic.

the golf has a boot and back seats which can actually be used which must be worth a few quid more than the 'rocco

IMO the Golf is more expensive mainly because people will pay it, the Roc is a niche car that doesn't make sense to a lot of people.

The Golf has two selling points over the Scirocco:

1. The "GTI" badge
2. Practicality

Of these arguably practicality is the only 'real-world' selling point as some people may prefer the coupe styling and "Scirocco" model name to the "GTI" pedigree.

Other than that, I honestly can't think of anything.  :undecided:

I have a Scirocco at the moment but I'm just awaiting delivery of of a Golf GTD. I have enjoyed my 18 months with the 'roc but I need a car which is more practical. IMO the quality of the Golf interior is better and the Golf feels a more solid car to drive. On the minus side for the Golf I have have had to get ACC and an RCD510 as options whereas they are standard on the 'roc.

My brother in-law got a new Scirocco GT so I was looking forward to having a drive as I quite fancied one when I change the GTI.

First impressions was it felt familiar. I thought it would have felt more sporty than the GTI after what I read. It didn’t that was the biggest surprise to me  however the engine did have a more sporty rasp to it than my GTI. I prefer the dash in the Golf also the steering wheel in the GTI feels special after driving the Scirocco.

To be honest I came away from the Scirocco a bit disappointed as I was so looking forward to driving it. That dose not mean it’s a bad car. It’s a cracking car that looks a lot more sexy than the boxy Golf. However the Golf GTI feels more up market than the Scirocco GT.

I’m going to wait and see how the mark 7 GTI will shape up. I have read it’s lost 70kg over the current GTI. That suggests it’s going to be quicker with sharper handling. It’s ether that or the Scirocco R
