misfiring mk4 2.0 gti !!!
« on: 04 December 2011, 15:13 »
I've changed the leads plugs oil n filter ! but the car is still missing out of 1st 2nd and 3rd definately idling too low as the plugs where a whiteish colour when removed ! the maf looks like it's been replaced recently i've checked pipes n hoses 4 splits can't see any ! Has any1 got any more ideas before i take it to the garage ? Also should i be fitting platinum plugs because i've heard conflicting stories from 2 different suppliers ? only other option i can think of is coilpack checked with vw because i heard they did a recall but my car wasn't affected.   HELP GUYS !!!!!!!!!!!

I had this problem, could be loads of things really.

Start with new spark plugs and ignition leads (Make sure the ignition leads are in the right slots, You have to have them in a certain order otherwise it will keep misfiring). Check the oil cap breather is secure and any breather pipes.

Cant really think of any others accept MAF senor or coilpack tbh, you say youve had your coilpack checked?

It is a commen fault on these for the coilpacks to go regardless if yours was not a recall model, i would replace that because thats all a garge is going to say, at least if that dosent solve the problem then the garage will have a good bases to work from with all the smaller parts changed.

do a compression check 1st, as that wont cost a penny, if all are spot on  around 140psi - 180psi on the gauge is good.

if all compression's are spot on take a H.T lead off each plug and check for a spark against the engine block, if no spark is present on 1 or more of the ht leads, will be more than likely a coil pack

let us know how you get on
