You mean evaporator?
If there is it might mean the car it was removed from had A/C ? Air con?
Old 8V's used to have a evaporator filter or carbon activated filter to vent excess fuel fumes to atmosphere!

Hmm it is a one way valve of some sort with a plug on the end with hoses either side. I've got a box of bits and don't know where it goes lol

in a mk2 it dosent join on.

just blank the port for thr pipe on the TB off and don't fit the evap filter.

it dose trigger a fault code for it,   or plug the valve in the ecu and hide if the FC annoys you
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

pourpose in being is to catch and absorb  the fumes that evaporate from the petrol in the tank, then when the engine is running said selonod valve opens and draws air through the filter an the fuel vaopurs are then drawn out of the filter and into engine and burned.

mk2 tank dosent have evap collection so it's not of any use
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

As I've said before it vents excess fuel it was mainly to meet European standards does nothing better off deleting it off!
The only MK2 Golf it was manufactured with is the Rallye

It doesnt vent fuel, as Danny says, it dumps the fuel fumes from the pressurised fuel tank into the inlet rather than to atmosphere. The fuel fumes are extremely bad for the environment (much more so than a cars exhaust) and the dump only happens at times when you wont notice it anyway so actually it does do something useful. Yes it is emissions kit but of the sort thats actually worthwhile and effective with minimal impact on your cars running and power . Its the same reason modern cars have those irritating trapdoors on the fuel filler, to stop evaporative emissions.

Oh and yes, I know its useless on a mk2 as you dont have the vent pipe that comes from the tank .
