MK1 GTi Cabriolet metering head plz help!
« on: 07 May 2005, 22:45 »
I am in desperate need of a metering head for a MK1 Golf GTi 1800 cabriolet.  It has a 1992 Scirroco engine in it but as far as I know the part is the same for both.  I have tried everywhere I know for this part and have drawn a blank.  If anyone out there can help please get in touch.  I am a huge Golf fan and have only had this motor for 2 weeks.  I would like to get it on the road asap as the rest of the car is in mint condition.

WHat makes you think the metering head is the problem (or don;t you have one)?
Whereabouts are you?
Try sticking this in the Parts Wanted section.

I have an earlier one (in West London) but may also be breaking my 88 Scirocco (which has a 91 Sciroccoo metering head) next week. If no-one else offers give me a shout.

The car is stuttering when you press on the accelorator and seems like not enough fule is getting through.  One of the guys at a garage I use has also said it's the same thing so that part would be a huge help.

hmmm happened to mine a year ago. check your fuel lift pump in the fuel tank underneath the rear seats if this aint working you will have the symptoms you described. Metering heads you can get from scrapyards off audi 80's, they aint much to go wrong on them though.

Gonzo,
Is this occurring when the engine is cold ie first thing in the morning? If so check the warm up regulator. I've just had mine done and it has cured the early morning juddering 100%. However there is still a slight niggling 'missing' feel sometimes that needs investigating further.

Crap in the tank ?
Has it had a new Fuel Filler pipe, or is the old one rusty ?
Flushing the tank and fitting a new fuel filter might be the solution.

What is the state of the circular plate in the metering head that lifts up with increased air flow ?
Does it lift the lever it is attached to easily, the pivot might need a drop of lube.
Is it cental to the cone of metal it sits in, there is some pre-adjustment by a little bracket underneath that the plate sits on at rest, there should be the tiniest of gaps all the way round, about the width of a paper business card.

If you have a Haynes, it details a procedure for checking the fuel delivery system, it involves removing the injectors (they just pull out) and checking the fuel mist pattern etc.
