Diverter valve / wastegate

Had a problem picked up at the dealers with a problem with the diverter valve and/or wastegate (05 GTi), car was a bit sluggish but nothing too noticeable to me (30-40mph commute to work each day mind, and hardly get to push the car). Took the car into a local VW expert and he prescribed a damaged diverter valve, and swapped the old one out for the new uprated version.

One thing i had noticed was the pressure release (whoooosh, think the boy racers in Imprezas etc but not quite so aggressive) when releasing the accelerator at high revs had disappeared, and swapping the to the new diverter valve had improved performance, but not reinstated the whoosh. Is this new valve working more efficiently, or is there still an issue with the wastegate?

I've heard somewhere that the boost pressure can be monitored on the dualzone climate control display, can anyone tell me how to do this to ensure I'm pulling the right boost pressure?

The GTI is not ment to have the whoosh noise, mine did the same until a changed the DV. On the older ones it was a diaphram and the rubber would split overtime allowing air through, hence the whooshing noises. On the GTI it recirculates the air (diverter valve) rather than releasing it into the air (dump valve).

as for monitoring it through the climate control I have no idea about it or how its done

Great, cheers, that confirms what I'd heard and puts my mind at rest. Although I'm pretty sure the DV was venting the pressure when I lifted off from day 1! (6 months old when I bought the car)

On the climate control, I'm sure I heard somewhere that there's a sequence of buttons you can push to show the boost pressure rather than the in-car temperature on the digital display, might be interesting.

I know this is possible on the Mk5 Vauxhall Astra's but I've never heard of it on Mk5 Vollkswagen Golfs. Are you sure you're not getting you're MK5s muddled?

Definitely not mixed up with an Astra, but a bit confused as to where I dredged that particular bit of info now!

I have a Forge one and I get a slight "woosh" sound (I love technical terms). I far from the most mechanically sound person but just using a bit of logic if you have had a remap for example with increased boost, is it possible that you are trying to recirculate too much pressure back into the system so the excess will just get wasted which would explain why my Forge one on a remapped car makes a woosh?

My woosh sound is not loud and you need to actually turn the radio off and sometimes open the window to even hear it, but its there.
