Have now got new GTD
« on: 30 November 2011, 10:19 »
 Picked up new car yesterday.  Had to drive home in some torrential rain so not a particularly good first outing.  Was relieved to find that ride is not at all firm, perhaps just a little noisier than last car.  Picked up one small problem of clicking windscreen wiper - so will see if this resolves itself.  As with previous GTD seems to be slight wobbly noise coming from front left hand side - thought it was wheel on previous car but obviously a trade mark noise :S

Car is fitted with Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT tyres and I wondered if anyone else had experience of these regards wear and performance.

Apparently, the garage picked up that there was a fault with the sat nav unit that the car was fitted with.  Have replaced with temporary unit and will fit brand new when VW supplies one.

All in all - good - looks good too.

dunlops are not the greatest wheel tbh. the sooner you change them the better... but dont expect them to wear out anytime soon, they seem to last for ages!

I'm glad you're all sorted now Ann, and are back behind the wheel of a very nicely speced Golf.

I've got the same tyres and find them quite noisey. I don't drive the car that often, but I suppose if I was in it all of the time I'd soon filter it out. Performance is acceptable as it never really gets pushed that hard, and as it does so few miles, I can't really comment on the wear.

Where abouts in the sweep do your wipers click? I found my drivers side one was set a fraction too high and was clipping the rubber at the edge of the windscreen at the top of it's sweep. A quick adjustment of the wiper arm, and the noise stopped. If it is the same as mine, your dealer could fix it in a cpuple of minutes.

I have dunlops on my GTI and I have a noise that sounds like wheel bearings but I'm told it's just uneven wear.

Got to change 4 tyres in the next few weeks so will let you know how I get on.

I had the wheel bearing noise on anything other than ribbon smooth tarmac with the crappy Mowhawks that were on the front of my car when I got it. I changed them for Dunlops to match the original rears, and the noise although better, is still there. Those are brand new tyres, so can't be put down to uneven wear.

New? For some reason I'd assumed it was used due to the speed that the replacement car had turned up.

Jim, I was talking about putting new Dunlops on my car.

I think from the previous thread that Ann's car is new, but I'm not 100% sure. Ann?
