Well, I got my new radiator fan installed, only to fin out the sockets are different.

The new fan is a 2 speed one and has three pins, my old one was a single speed, and has two pins.

My Autofactors tell me that there isn't a connector available for this and I need to use the spade connectors, is this true?

But more importantly is which wires go where?

Anyone help?

Cheers.

in your exisiting connector. one wire is earth, the other live

so put spade terminals on the end of each wire and then try various combinations till you get the fan sucking air into the radiator at high speed

Cheers, managed that, tested by shorting the switch connector, all working.

However now looks like the theroswitch has gone as well, got the car upto temp, and no fan, fuse as ok (kept blowing before replacing fan/motor) and if I shorted switch still would turn, but not when plugged into swith (and the plug can only go on one way so isn't that). So yet another trip to auto factors

Gonna have to drain the coolant again by the look of it, anyone know if I can reuse the drained stuff or just refill with new antifreeze (only ask cause I've just but new anitfreeze in)

just go down the breakers and find a dual speed fan on a golf and get the thermostat or whatever it is that screws into the rad, then you can plug your 2 speed connector normally

If your quick you should be able to change the thermo switch without loosing more than a drop or two of coolant , so you shouldn't need to drain down the system

Turns out I hadn't refitted one of the pipes properly anyway, most of it dripped out overnight

Oh well, never mind still haven't got me thermoswitch, put should be able to grab it on the way home and fit it when I get there

From what I can tell it will be the twin temp setting one anyway (to go with the fan) shame I ain't got the loom for it, hope to grab on at a scrappy sometime.

Thanks for all the help.
