Climate Control
« on: 05 May 2005, 23:38 »
First, hello to everyone as I am a new member

I have recently bought a PD150 and need some advice.
The climate control on the lowest setting blows out cool air, but nowhere near as cold as on my previous Saab ( made the hairs on your arms instantly stand up) Is this normal, or does it need servicing or worse, is it knackered ?
And secondly I`m only averaging low 40`s mpg. I don`t hammer the throttle, and I stick wthin speed limits. I expected more.
Other than that great car. Love the handling. Its an import with full leather and heated seats. Will VW UK cover it under warrantly ( registered Oct 2002).
cheers

Your aircon possibly needs servicing/recharging , hard to say but if its not blowing ice cold it definitely needs looking at.

40+ mpg on a 150bhp turbo diesel car is bloody good, feel sorry for us guys who get low 20's

VW generally only honour the warranty on imports for 2 years, unless someone pays to have it extended to the usual 3 years, in which case yours would be up this coming autumn anyway. Give your local dealer a call they should be able to tell you from the the registration if its still covered or not.

i'm not sure low 40's is so good to be honest . I have an anniversary pd150 and with those large wheels and high inertia i still get somewhere around 50mpg and 46 if i cane it. how many miles has your car done wildy?

Thanks for the advice. My car has done 40k and also sits on 18 inch wheels. I`m having it serviced next week, so I hope this will improve the mpg.

A quick update on the climate control. I took it first to a air con specialist who told me pressure okay, so it must be an electrical fault. Went to a mates garage who is a VW nut, and he plugged it in to his laptop. He diagnosed a problem with a control flap ( not good as its apparantly behind the dash). As I`vw not had the car long I contacted the garage where I got it from (car out of warranty with VW). At first they said they would have their mechanics carry out repair. I said no way, this was a job only for VW and needed specific software. They then agreed to pay for the parts and contribute towards the labour charge, paying £15 pounds an hour rate, and that I would have to pay the difference ( local VW rate £65 per hour ! ). Likely that I would need to pay £300 towards the bill. I therefore told them that I was returning the car to them and requested full refund as they had sold a car with a major fault, as per Trading Standards advice. Result, they have agreed to pay for all costs to repair and diagnosis
The car has since been in to VW at Wigan and had a full diagnosis. They informed me that a computer had failed, and so they have ordered a new one and will I got them to throw in a fresh recharge.
The funny thing is, folllowing the VW garage doing the diagnosis the air con started working today, and is freezing cold on the low setting. So it must be an intermitant fault.

my air con, in auto mode doesnt give much air cooling  in fact even with a 15ºC differece the fan speed is 2 or 3 bars,   if i put the recirculation option on, it goes freezeing cold (of course it ends up drying the air inside)
is this normal ?

the other day was pretty hot and the auto option went crazy putting the fan speed at max, until y had to stopit

is there any way to check it up with out going to vW?

Iam soooo glad mine doesnt have that silly climate control unit, at my last job i had to drive different cars to different branches and i could never get on at all with climate control, it never done what i wanted it to do.

My golf's got normal controls which i find much easier, just press the A/C button and nice cold air with no hassle
