Sunroof not working :(

Summers around the corner and my electric sunroof decides to pack up on me.I can hear a clicking when i operate the switches (tilt/slide) meaning there's power going to the motor but nothing happens.Does this basically mean the actual motors packed up or does anyone know of a fix i can try.

Does it make any slight movement?

Take the roof housing cover off and see if there is a manual winder.

there is a manual winder in there , its for emergencies or something .

Sounds to me as if the plastic gears are worn on the motor, try undoing the roof manualy and have a look.
New cogs should be cheap enough from VW.

The sunroof works fine both slide and tilt if you use the emergency Allen key provided so its not the gears.
Ill have to get hold of a motor from somewhere and see if that fixes the prob.

Same thing happened to mine a couple of years ago.  Ran it backwards & forwards a few times using the allen key & lubricated all the moving parts including the runners with PTFE spray. Must've done the trick 'cus it's still working now.

Problem sorted
I bought a new motor of ebay for 30 quid took 1 min to remove the old one and replace with the new one and works a treat

having same issue on mk3 vr6 - but the sunroof works fine for tilt, but it won't slide back - when I try the switch it clicks and go back a little and stops - I try the switch again it goes back a little and then stops - I've tried the manual usage with the allen key works fine all the way back... I've cleaned and lubricated all parts - still not working? What do you think - is this switch or motor gone?

Could be the motor they seem to be temperamental as i fitted a new motor and all was fine until about a week later then it packed up again .I tried it the next day and it worked no prob and has been fine ever since.
I was thinking it was linked to my alarm system as its got the full closure facility.

I got a problem with mine (mk3). The sun roof will slide back with the open button (obv) but will only close with the tilt button. It will then tilt and then I can use the close button to close it from there. It has only just done it, I have been able to close it with the close button before. I can here the relay ticking when I press it but will only work on tilt! 

Any1 got any ideas on that?
