Remap Help & Advise Needed
« on: 25 November 2011, 15:35 »
:cool:I am due to get my GTD in a week or so and i would like to remap the engine but i have a few questions

Any good tuners near Derby
Which is the best remap for performance and can it be reset back to original
Do you really get better MPG than the standard map done by VW engineers
Does adding 25 bhp make that much difference on a car weighing 1400kg
Do you need to change the air filter as well

Thanks for any advice given

I know of one, but it may be against forum politics to say it out loud on here.

I'm sure any of the tuners could advise you about that one.

Yes, when driven normally, but when you use the performance, you will obviously use more fuel.

It's all about the torque.

No. The standard paper filter is more than up to the job.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

I'd second a call to Doc - I've not dabbled yet but am seriously considering and those that have done are glad they did!

It'd make the GTD a different (better) car with more response and smoother delivery - go for it!

To be brutally honest no, 25 horsepower will probably not be that noticeable on the road.

But the torque's will.

The only issue is that if you're car was born after a certain date then the ECU might be locked.

I can't give the Doc a personal recommendation as I haven't used him but the consensus on the forum is that he is genuine, straight-forward and very helpful. Even if you decide not to go with him I think making contact with him would be very valuable indeed.

I can give the DOC a personal recommendation.

He was up in Glasgow the other week and I introduced him to my work colleague who has the same kind of Golf as me and took advantage of getting his car remapped while he was here.

He's not a member on here despite me keep nagging him but you can see the feedback he gave DOC here:

I'll probably be getting rid of mine at 3 years which isn't that long to go or I would definitely get mine done and by DOC. It was a service second to none.

Thanks chaps.

You'll go to at least 200 Bhp and 330 ftlb of torque, this totally transforms the GTD into what it should have been in the first place ie a match for the GTI in performance

30-35 hp is difference plus the torque, the difference is like light and day on the MW when over taking

It appears a K&N filter on a diesel will make no noticeable difference.
