So...
« on: 24 November 2011, 16:53 »
My missus has just passed her test today (first time!) woohoo!

But we're REALLY struggling on insurance and what car to choose. Budget it EVERYTHING.

Cheapest I can find is £290 deposit, with 11 months at £130 and that's for a Corsa 1.2... The 1.0 is a beast with 12 Valves, so that's a no-go according to Mr. Insurance Man.

Are there any cheaper cars to insure?!

Basically she's after a car that will last her first year so she can gather 1 year of no claims, and as low insurance as possible.

Best friend she has a Punto 1.2. Pays 1k at 19 just passed test.
Gf has a Ka and pays 1500 and is pretty much the same age and time she passed yesterday, literally days.

Its her postcode which is the 500 more tho Pinto would be 1700.

Ka.

More expensive.

I've tried:

Punto
Saxo
Corsa
Golf
Micra
Polo
Ka
Accent ()
106
306
Clio
Siecento
Cinquicento
Matiz

I'm stuck. Surely that can't be the cheapest quote. :undecided:

Best option is to go for the newest car you can, with the smallest engine.

Limited milage, try named drivers but probably won't help.

She has a budget of £400 as the insurance is such a joke  So new car.. not possible unfortunately.

Driving a car used to be a privledge, these days its a Luxury!
Is it me or new drivers dislike older cars like Mini's?
I'm sure they were dirt cheap to insure for a year?
I went up against a Cinquicento I lost and then he showed me what he had under the hood.
Nice cars in the day at uni we hired 6 of them for the day different colours and drove around London bumper to bumper

I found going for the typical ' first car' ie saxo clio corsa etc ridiculously expensive to insure from all the claims that have been made against them! Try going down the family car route ie focus etc youl be pleasantly suprised I think  I certainly was
