New clutch fitted, judder on pull off!!
« on: 23 November 2011, 19:27 »
Hi,
yesterday i had a new sachs kevlar clutch kit and dual mass flywheel fitted with new bearing. the car is so much smoother through the gears now and the awful cluttering noise has stopped

BUT, on pulling away from standing start, i get a fair bit of judder. is this normal??

i rang the fitter today and they tell me its just bedding in, really?

could this be a engine mount?

any help or advice would be appreciated..... Thanks in advance

well i guess the best place to start is to just give it a few hundred miles and see if it goes away

When you say juddering do you mean vibration? It's so difficult to describe a problem we all have  ummmm. It could be an engine mount. If your lower one (dog bone) has gone then that would cause alot of play with the engine rolling back and forth which could/would cause 'juddering'.

I had my OEM one replaced with uprated bushes and hell there is no juddering, the gear changes are very crisp.

You will feel the vibrations through the cab on acceleration from first gear. Thats about it. I can put up with it for the sake of great feeling gear changed.

Any other ideas on what it could be Rhyso, you are far more qualified than I am

I ran a polybushed dog  mount for a month and the vibration on idle was horrendous     Fitted an R32 dogbone mount and harmony was restored!

It could be a simple case of not tightening up the mounting bolts  :undecided:

You'll easilly be able to see any excess movement on the engine mounts - get someone to rev the engine a bit while you look at the engine. it shouldn't move much at all

Revving alone won't do much, stick it in gear and get it to bite. If it starts climbing out the bay it is a mount.

I'd go for either your bolts haven't been done up properly or it has amplified a dmf problem. Or they have damaged it.

New dog mount fitted this morning and it's loads better. Still some vibration there though, is it worth getting the other mounts done as well do you think? Or is that just something I've got to live with. Clutch has had 320 miles on it now, so I'm assuming it's bedded in.

Thanks for your help, was fearing the worst and was very dishearten after paying for new clutch and dmf. Expected it to drive better now worse.
