Why not hire a steel container?

We didn't with ours as long as the highest point was 3m(?) away from the neighbours. The garage is less than 2m tall so believe that's why we didn't need any.

No planning required as there is already one in situ' although it is completely unusable. I'm thinking of maybe something from the likes of these http://www.comptonbuildings.co.uk/

I think it actually comes under building consent rather than planning regs.

Any building less than 2m tall is not a building! And definitely not a garage!


Just read your earlier post! Any secondary timber only building is classed as a temporary structure like a shed so yes you are correct it does not need PP.

The container idea is interesting, but would deffo want it permenant.

I just thought it would be an instant solution for storage then you could plan a decent garage.

If there was a garage there before you may get away without getting PP, depends what kind of structure it was.
