150 companies in a year isnt really a lot, thats not even one a day, if i was in your possition this is what ide do

normal working hours 8-5 with a 1 hour lunch, so from 8-12 go onto the job centre website, fish 4 jobs, the local papers job section etc etc etc and apply for every job there is. once it gets to 12, go for your dinner, after dinner sit down and send out more CV's untill 5 then go for a chill and do what ever youde do if you werent at work. ide be applying for atleast 10 a day as a bare minimum, no matter what they were, even if its just working in KFC or working in a office as a fileing b!tch its money and its better than sitting on your arse doing nothing. apply everywere, carpet shops, valeting shops, car garages, petrol stations, pet shops anything.
i know some of them they will say things like oh so what experience do you have with animals or something (if you applied for a pet shop) and you might have no interest in thembut tell them your wiling to learn, if they say no fare enough, atleast you tried.
then once you get a job thats getting you a bit of money and have something else to put on your CV chase after your dreams, look for accountant jobs or what ever it is you want to do in the long term but having macdonalds on your CV is better than saying oh yeah i sat down on my arse for god knows how long trying to get a job i liked atleast having macdonalds on there shows your willing to do anything for a job and willing to put a bit of commitment in

400+ job applications sent out

a lot of jobs i was over qualified for

90% of those jobs say if you dont hear back in 72 hours, thanks but no thanks

I got about 20 replies in total, of which i got to 2 interviews, getting the job from the second one.

Good luck, you will need it, i was VERY lucky

Cheers for the help guys. I should mention that I have a full time job at the minute anyway so it isnt that big a deal.

Its just that in the past I seemed to get jobs alot easier than I can now. I know the country is in a bit of a state but I still thought that I would be able to get something quicker than this. :undecided:

it is hard out there. even people with degrees and professional qualifications are finding it hard. certain industries are harder to get into than others. im speaking from experience. i used to sit at home applyting none stop. the application process was long at least 45mins per app. had to be done.

Im a contractor (IT) and it isnt easy. Ignore the 'get any job' ethos. Employers will want to know what you have done, having KFC on there isnt going to help. Im only picking jobs which will benefit my CV and obviously pay well. Im with an Oil company until christmas then have to find something new!

also try and explain what you did where there are gaps in your CV. employers like to know how you kept busy
