This is one of those "DONT TRY THIS AT HOME" type methods. :o
Pull out the injectors with the fuel pipes still on, bridge out the fuel pump relay so the pump runs when the ign is on, lift the air metering flap and you should see fuel spray from the injectors. Can also check for a good spray from the injectors at the same time. If you get fuel out, I think that the metering unit is ok and you may have an air leak (wont lift the flap = no fuel). Good luck, Steve.

Be very carefull with this method, major fire risk.

Thanks, but we already tried that - still not working.

man im getting vexed with this car.

anone got a cheap airflow unit????

Where abouts are you? I replaced my air flow meter and found it wasn't the problem so you can have my, now spare, if you want, don't know if the 90 8V will fit on a 87 16V?

If it does and you're not far from Norwich we can sort something out, otherwise if you just pay for the postage it's yours!

The offer is much appreciated thanks ;D ;D

I have replaced the air flow unit which was 60 quid plus 40 notes for the labour which included all the testing at the local garage so it aint too bad.

Got my baby back on da road and seems to be running ok.

it is an 88 model form looking at the engine code  :D.

I do not think the 8 valvers have the saem unit as i was brreaking a 90 spec one and looked for one on that and it didi not have one on there.

Thanks everyone for your help.

90 spec 8v does not have a metering unit as it is digifant, they will have a 'heated strip' type airflow meter. Pre 88 8vs are fitted with k-jet injection which have the metering unit plunger type airflow meter. 16vs are ALL k-jets.

Buy a gunson colortune from halfords. Its like a spark plug with a window so you can see the colour of the combustion. The adjustment screw is somewhere in the metering unit on the airbox.
