you dont need the alignment tool. Just need someone to hold the gearstick dead centre then tighten the adjustment bolt.

Or just do it yourself with trial and error, knocking it over a gnats cock at a time

I fitted the b&b kit today,It was easier than i imagined and only took about 20-30mins.The gear selection feels much more positive now but it got dark and i had to leave the actual setting up of the gearstick with the tool thingy bob.

All being well it'll be one step nearer to actually being on the road lol

Glad to have been of service my friend

The tool can be bought cheap from ebay or use an audio cassette (remember them?) held in the gap between the reverse gate & lockout lever.

Well i used the magic tool today and the gear selection feels great and i can now push it towards first and realease the clutch without cringing lol.

I will be adding the bomb looking wieghty things as soon as i can locate one as it seems like a worthy mod

It's a mk3 golf weighed shift rod - appear on ebay but don't pay silly money for it!

If you stick with the standard rods and have a weighed shift you will notice the difference.  Replacing the whole lot with upgraded links not as much.

I fitted a weighted rod along with the bush kit and it's well worth it. Think I paid a tenner for mine because I had the bush kit sitting in the garage waiting to go on the car, and saw one on eBay on a BIN. I'm sure you could haggle with a scrapper for a few quid less, but for £10 I can't think of much that makes driving the car more enjoyable pound-for-pound.
