starter motor
« on: 04 May 2005, 21:19 »
greetings,
can somebody please shed some light on this - when i turn the key to start the engine, there is complete silence for a couple of seconds followed by one slow turn before the engine springs into life. it never fails to start, but the whole procedure doesn't sound right. does this mean the starter itself is on its way out, or is the problem with the solenoid thingy that sits on top (battery is less than 2 years old)

many thanks in advance

take the starter motor off and clean up the shaft. usually these get clogged up with clutch plate dust n oil and become tempermental

also, how strong is your battery?

Sounds like a weak battery to me.

Check the cabling to the starter motor, and the battery cables.  Sounds like they might be a bit loose/dirty (Sounds like a girl I used to know!)

Take it down to Halfords too, they'll test the battery for free.
