Chip friendly Mk 4 Insurance Company ??
« on: 04 May 2005, 21:06 »
hey folks,

was having real naff day in work today so to get my mind of things rang my insurer Sainsburys - first alternative) to find out about new premium for chipping my gti T 150 to 196bhp. to cut a long story short the chap on the other end said the company wouldn't do it despite my excellent driving history and being 25yrs age, he said i'd need to be 35yrs to be considered....w@nker. anyway, does anyone know of any companies that wouldn't be so scared to sort me out?? many thanks.

I am with elephant, they are quite good, you can do a quote online and tick the boxes next to what mods you got on your car.

admiral/elephant and the likes of tesco will give you a quote, but they add stupid amounts on for ANY modification.. and they dont cover the mod. Say you buy a set of wheels, declare them on your insurance and they get nicked... they'll only replace them with factory standard items.

3 that i'd recommend are Adrian Flux, Greenlight and Brentacre .. they ask a lot of questions but the prices are good and everything is then covered.

I started with them when I modded my 4.0 wrangler and still with them now..totally clued..Alternatively you could try Graham Sykes. He was one of the insurers around with the Jeep scene.Sponsored the events and from what I remember was reasonable...ahhhh memories.4ltr and rear wheel drive....

Previous rides..MKIV 1.8T   MKIV PD150  MK5 GTI MK5 edition30 now MK7 GTI PP

thanks for all the advice chaps. i've sent of about a million quotes and can't believe some of the feedback i've had already, some are ridiculous !!! i'm currently paying less than £500 with sainsbury's for my standard GTI T...they've said won't touch me on 40bhp increase, and other companies have decided to start charging a grand for standard models......u must be joking !! will need to give adrian flux a call but last time asked them they said i would need a tracker fitted to my car, awaiting some other results but will let u know how i get on....admiral want to charge £1000 for non standard exhaust and chip up to 25% increase.....not paying that i'm afraid !!  rant over, laters all.      :undecided: :embarassed:

admiral/elephant= same company, just sister act for more custom,  ive been with admiral for 8 years now, been sh@te hot all the time, the mk4 is only £300 fully comp protected, lowered on 17's with induction kit (no longer fitted) etc , not bad really, and yeah whta topher has said is correct, even though you are covered to drive/use the vehicle with the mods they will only be replaced with standard parts if the mods etc are stolen/damaged, yeah may sound pants.... but if your 17" wheels etc where nicked, theyd have to goto vw to try and price up a standard sized replacement, which im sure would equal what you would have paid for aftermarket wheels etc anyways!!!
