Uogradeing hose kit on a 1993 mk3 vr6
« on: 20 November 2011, 16:59 »
Hi all recently got my old golf vr6 back last week i swapped it for my pug 306 that cost me £100. Any way the top rad hose needs replacing as it leaks either side of the T peice pipe that goes from the block into heater matrix. So i have now purchased a ven air hose kit  i plan to totally flush the sytem etc. I read some where i have to use special coolant and distilled water ??? if any one can shed some light on this matter and tell me if theres any information on the forum on how to go about dsoing this please let me know many thanks

G12 from VW is what you need, do not use standard anti freeze, I have never used distilled water myself.

Also worth checking a VR that the aux water pump is working all ok.

Get the coolant from VW. G12++ You should be able to pick up distilled water from any motor factors pretty cheaply, its not massively important imo, but if you wanna make the effort, thats the way to go. You will need 2 x 1.5l bottles of coolant, then top up with water. Make sure you bleed correctly afterwards.

Distilled water has a higher boiling point due to having less particles. But water temp will never rise above 90 so not worth it.

If you've got problems with water temps, it wont boil until alot higher than 100 degs anyway due to it being within a pressurised system. The water would still expand at 90 and start popping off hoses otherwise.

Go to VMW near Parade, they sell G12++ it's on the left as you walk in, or just ask.
