Did they ask before they fingered your dog?

Out of order if they didn't, otherwise OK.

You're right, they have some odd customs out there. I especially dislike their idea of a toilet.

Customs!

Not a custom I've come across before.

What part of France did this take place in?  I'll aim to avoid it if I'm travelling with a hound.

I agree on that one, Nick.  Toilets should involve sitting and not having to be unnecessarily thorough with washing one's hands after a visit.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Holiday cottages on the Isle of Wight for 2-10 people? PM me.

Great on the basis that it facilitates access to Germany.

This. Went last year, popped over the border for a day to Germany and wow what a difference. We'll not bother with France at all next time. Loved Germany, everyone was super friendly and we had a great day even though it rained non stop.

I find its only the parts of France which have a lot of exposure to English people that are full of thingys, the small or non tourist places are actually quite nice and the people are friendly. Their idea of a toilet I though agree is piss poor!

My misses is French, she comes from Avignon (le Pontet)
If you are typicaly english they treat you like turd, if you try and fit in they beast you but make more of an effort.
Nothing wrong with france really it is the opposite geographicaly of England, Most of the Racisits are in the south along with the hardest accents to understand :grin:and the poncey twits are up north :lipsrsealed:
Her Sister lives in Saint Martin D'Ardeche which is so beautiful, also her folks live there for most of the year leaving their home in Provence empty.
I do plan to try and make use of this empty house this summer coming.......
I find the French show their dislike for you up front, the Germans can be very nice to your face but a bit sharp when they think you cant understand what they are saying.
This particular Tommy has caught them out on many an occasion, although I would rather live in Baden Wurtemburg over France which would be good for the trip back to the inlaws

I went to Biarritz and Hossegor last month. Like a few say it's very expensive. €7 for a pint is steep but part of that is due to our wank economy.

Everywhere we went was nice and we tried with a bit of French language which helped. What I did notice is how there were very few fat women over there. :p

They are all quite active as a country from what we noticed!

I'd go again!

I lived in Argeles-Sur-Mer for a little while this year, which was a beautiful place below the Pyrenese mountains on the Western Med. Although the place was beautiful, the people were horrible and very hateful towards English people. And I even speak French!
