Rocker cover gasket replacement
« on: 04 May 2005, 09:24 »
I'm wanting to change the rocker cover gasket on my 16v, from previous articles it's implied that it's easy.

However the Haynes doesn't give a walkthrough (that I can find) and when looking at the engine, there's a lot of stuff in the way that (without knowing what I really need to do) worries me.

I know I have to remove the intake manifold, but does that mean I also need to remove the injectors? (and loads of other uncertainty)

Could anyone help me by posting or directing me to a walkthrough?

Thanks in advance.

you only need to remove the upper part of the intake manifold. or in laymans terms. the 4 tubes that run over the top of the block! all can be done with a decent sprocket set!

this will then give you the access to remove the rocker cover in order to fit the new gasket

i did mine yesterday undo the 4 or 5 nuts on the intake manifold then at the back of the engine theres another 3 of them and a plastic connector with 3 wires going in on the back left side of it. when you have un done them you can carefully take it off and undo the rocker cover (dont snap the bolts like i did) its as easy as that m8  oh yeh if you have a cam belt cover you may need to unscrew it aswell as it goes over part of the rockercover on mine !!
