your car develops a fault, its your problem. its as simple as that!

That's right, always someone else to blame.

You throw a burning ember on the road and cause danger, someone elses fault

Back on topic: Make cigs illegal!!!!

Whoa there horsey!

Here are some figures for you all to digest.  Should keep this thread going.

From a bit of research and figures from the Department of Health and Revenue and Customs.

Approx 80% of the UK population do not smoke.

So only 20% are smokers.

According to a written response from the DoH in 2009:

“smoking is the largest single cause of preventable illness and premature death in the UK. It kills 106,000 people every year and costs the British taxpayer more than £1.7billion a year in treatment bills alone. It causes 84 per cent of deaths from lung cancer and 83 per cent of deaths from chronic obstructive lung disease, including
bronchitis”

2011/12 NHS budget is £106 Billion
Cost of treatment is £1.7 Billion
Tax revenue from tobacco 2010-11 is £11.1 Billion

Net GAIN = £9.4 Billion

Or to put it another way.  If you banned smoking the Government would LOSE £11.1 Billion in spending but would gain only £1.7 Billion from not having to treat people.

But these people would now be living longer.  So you would have to factor in their benefits/pensions, and offset this against any tax revenue they would generate by working etc..

It get complicated.  But all in all probably wont amount to £11.1 Billion, or there about.

HTH

Jonathan.

According to the figures above there are approximately 13,000,000 people in the UK smoking. If we were to say an average of 3 cigs a day that equals just below 40 million cig butts discarded.

Lets say a measly 5% are out of a car window. Thats 2,000,000 a day. Which is 730,000,000 a year.

How many people die through cigs throws out of a car window??

Seems like smoking in your car is safer than smoking at home judging by the number of house fires started by cigs.
